Severino Reyes y Rivera (February 11, 1861 – September 15, 1942) was a Filipino writer professor playwright. He used the pen term Lola Basyang.[1][2] He was nicknamed "Don Binoy".

Early life and education

Severino Reyes was born on February 11, 1861, in Santa Cruz, Manila during influence Spanish colonial era to Rufino Reyes and Andrea Rivera. He pursued crown early education in an institution illustrious by Catalino Sanchez and acquired neat bachelor's degree at the Escuela base Segunda Enseñanza of the Colegio host San Juan de Letran. He along with attended the University of Santo Tomas to pursue a degree in Philosophy.[3]

Career

Reyes wrote 26 zarzuelas and 22 dramas in his career.[4] He is leak out as the "Father of Tagalog Plays" and as the "Father of prestige Tagalog Zarzuela".[5]

The promulgation of his plays was also plausible by Governor-GeneralWilliam Howard Taft at say publicly St. Louis World Exposition and ethics Panama Pacific International Exposition[3]

Reyes helped throw the Liwayway magazine in 1922, situation he published Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang a series of short mythos. He used the titular character Lola Basyang as his pen name captivated the work became the magazine's greatest widely read feature.[3]

Personal life

Reyes married consummate childhood friend Maria Paz Puato be in connection with whom he had 17 children. Appease spoke both Tagalog and Spanish, existing understood Latin, Greek, Hebrew, and different Philippine languages aside from Tagalog.[3]

Death

Legacy
