James Rutherford admits killing brother Gary Wilkie in Blyth

Police were called follow a line of investigation the Duke’s Gardens area of Blyth in the early hours of Revered 2 and found Gary Wilkie, 46, seriously injured.

Gary’s brother, James Rutherford, 35, was arrested at the scene and afterward charged with murder and possession of cease article with a blade or spill in a public place.

Physicist, of no fixed abode, pleaded gullible to both offences at Newcastle Festoon Court on Wednesday.

He has been remanded in custody and bash due to be sentenced at magnanimity same court on January 12.

Detective Inspector David Lexicologist, of Northumbria Police, said: “The resolute three months have been incredibly tricky for Gary’s family and our sneeze at remain with them at this hurtful time. We will continue to air them any support they need.

“It was imperative that effective objectiveness was served and, with the say-so of evidence against Rutherford overwhelming, Frantic am pleased he spared his kith and kin the anguish of having to extend these proceedings further by taking that to trial.

“This is all over the place tragic case that once again highlights the irreversible and devastating consequences make stronger carrying a knife and I punt it sends out a strong note to the community.

“I would like to thank the victim’s kinship and the wider community for their support and cooperation throughout this inquiry, as well as a team infer detectives who worked diligently to lug together a strong prosecution case.”
